This Galaxy is quite distinct in its appearance. The inner part of the galaxy contains a dark lane that give it its distinct look and name. The spiral arms further out are very subtle in brightness and colour. I don't know why, but the inner part of the galaxy is orbiting the centre in the opposite direction to the outer part. Active star creation is occurring in the shear region in between. The atmosphere of the galaxy just fades away into the background space. THe galaxy is 17 million years distant and the full diameter is 40,000 light years.
