NGC 3576 Statue of Liberty nebula

NGC 3576 Statue of Liberty nebula

About 100 light-years across, this nebulous star-forming region lies in the Milky Way's Sagittarius Arm and is also known as the Nebulae Complex RCW 57. The newborn stars at the center of NGC 3576 have shaped its gas into huge looping filaments around a dark central pillar, giving it the popular nickname the "Statue of Liberty Nebula" or The Torch.
