Solar prominences & sunspots in Ha

Solar prominences & sunspots in Ha

Date/Time: May 24, 2012 1:53PM PDT

Location: My home, Victoria, BC, Canada

There were some moderate sized prominences visible scattered around the Sun's perimiter. Sunspots 1486 & 1484 are not easily visible. There are two highlights: the two huge detached spires of plasma shooting out into space at the 9 o'clock position either side of the low bump of a prom, and the huge thin prom sticking straight out at the 2 o'clock position.

Equipment: Hutech-modified Canon T2i dSLR a-focal through a 2.5x Powermate, IDAS VLC filter, & Lunt LS60THa + LS50FHa solar telescope mounted on an HEQ5 tracking mount.

Processing: Photoshop Elements 10 - lowered Exposure, increased Clarity, converted to 8 bit version of image. Sobel method applied to enhance detail in the prominences.
