A coppery Moon over Victoria

A coppery Moon over Victoria

Date/time: June 8, 2009 11:16pm PDT

Location: Observatory Hill, Victoria, BC, Canada

This coppery coloured Moon looks like it is in full eclipse, however the colour is caused by a heavy inversion layer currently over Victoria. Some forest fires on the BC Mainland are no doubt contributing to the particulate to be found in the air here on the Island.

This photo is taken looking south over the City of Victoria and Juan de Fuca Strait.

Camera: Unmodified Canon 50D dSLR handheld against a park bench. Canon EFS 17-85mm zoom operating at 64mm
Exposure: 1/8 sec at f/5.7 (manual)
ISO: 800
