Solar Prominences & Sunspots 1263 & 1260

Solar observing at the RASCals Star Party was particularly rewarding this afternoon. The Sun had multiple large prominences, some had detached from the Sun's surface and were floating into space.
Once processed with the Sobel edge detection method, the soft contrast of the original photos disappeared, revealing wonderful detail.
We also observed two large sunspots, although they are not visible in this photo.
Equipment: Hutech-modified Canon T2i dSLR a-focal through a 2.5x Powermate, IDAS VLC filter, & Lunt LS60THa + LS50FHa solar telescope mounted on an HEQ5 tracking mount.
Exposure: 1/15 second at ISO 1600
Bandpass: <0.55 Å
