The Mice (NGC 4676)

The Mice (NGC 4676)

The Mice are two colliding galaxies about 300ish million light years away. I have been interested in capturing an image of them for a fairly long time, as the Hubble image captures my eyes every time I see it. That being said, we don't have Hubble, and it is rather difficult to tease out details on 15th magnitude objects. What I did manage to capture were some fairly defined star trails within the galaxies, a few contrast shifts in the core, and some longish dust tails. I think the galaxies are each about 2x1 arc minute, so there isn't much size to work with in picking out details.

This is one hour and forty minutes of five minute exposures with the QSI at -15*C through the Meade 14" SCT at f10.
