Comet PanSTARRS C/2011 L4

Comet PanSTARRS C/2011 L4

Date/time: Mar 31, 2013 9:15PM PDT
Location: Victoria Center Observatory, Observatory Hill, Victoria, BC, Canada

The Comet was low over the Malahat hills as observed from the VCO, but clear of the trees and near M31 Andromeda Galaxy. The tail was quite spectacular in the binoculars, although I could not see the Comet without using binoculars.

There is some star trailing in the photo, since I was not using a tracking mount.

Equipment: Canon EOS 7D dSLR + Canon EF70-300mm L zoom lens, no tracking on a Manfrotto 055 tripod with a ball head

Exposure: 5 sec, ISO 2500 f/5.0, fl=214mm

Conditions: Temperature 9°C, Humidity 79%, Dew Point 5.6°C (no dew). LVM 4.0, Transparency 4/5, Steadiness 4/5, clear skies
