M109 and satellites
In this inverted image of M109 three of its satellite galaxies can be seen, a somewhat remarkable fact given the distance - 46M light years. M109 itself is a lovely example of a barred spiral galaxy.
Details
Date and location - 2010-03-19 at the Victoria Centre Observatory in Victoria BC.
Conditions - 7 deg C, windy with fair to poor transmission.
Equipment - TV 127mm refractor with modified Canon T1i.
Exposures - 20 light and 5 dark at ISO 800 for 120s each with 8 flat frames for calibration.
