SN 2011 by in NGC3972
Type 1a Supernova "2011 by" is the very bright object just above and left of the core of NGC 3972. This image was taken only a few days after it was first observed at 2011-04/26.823.

2011-05-01 (T=05.1h UTC) at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory near Victoria BC.
Telescope operator Dave Balam.
Conditions 7 deg C and clear with good seeing.
Equipment - 1.8m Plaskett telescope with CCD camera.
Filters and Exposures - R -5x60s, V -5x90s, B -5x120s.
Processing - Flats applied at Plaskett. Final processing with Images Plus and photoshop.
