Annular Solar Eclipse Composite 1

Annular Solar Eclipse Composite 1

It's been almost a week since the annular eclipse and I thought I would put together some impressions of the event. This composite is as much illustration as it is straight photography. The original photographs are lovely in capturing the event but in this composite I wanted to emphasize my memories of seeing my first annular eclipse.

The top left corner is an image from the Saturday prior to the eclipse. You can see the 3 prominent sunspots that appeared almost in a straight line.

The bottom right corner shows the initial bite out of the sun.

The right column of the composite are the matching crescents that are part of the annular eclipse. Due to the symmetric nature of the positioning of the moon the tapering horns are very distinctive.

Of course in the middle, the ring of fire!

All images were done with a Televue Pronto, 2X Televue Powermate, Thousand Oaks 2+ Solar Filter, 32mm Televue Plossl and a Panasonic Lumix TS3 camera positioned afocally above the eyepiece.

The images were tuned, colour matched and re-scaled using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended.
