Here's what the sun looked like in late 2013! This would have been leading up to the last solar maximum in 2014, so explains the sun spots creeping near the equator. This was taken with a Nikon D3100 through some sort of telescope, I don't recall if it was a regular scope with a solar filter, or a full solar scope.
