Total Lunar Eclipse November 8th 2022 2:24 PST

Total Lunar Eclipse November 8th 2022 2:24 PST

Just after the total eclipse began on November 8th the sky was filled with clouds. There was crusty snow on the driveway. I carried out the tracker and my telephoto that always accompanies me on lunar eclipses. It was a long shot but with another lunar eclipse so far in the future it was worth the effort.

The skies did part for moments at a time, often the moon was only visible on the screen of my camera. At this stage of the eclipse the moon was very red even visually. Wind gusts made exposures challenging but I did have moments of stillness that allowed me to image the eclipse including some of the starfield. By now a warm house was beckoning and the clouds had won the battle. As I was packing up I looked up and saw an equally red Mars floating above the clouds.
