Sh2-101 - Tulip Nebula in Narroband (HSO palette)

The relatively close Tulip Nebula (2300 ly) in Cygnus represents the third and final "entry" in my Flowers of Nebulosity series. The "Tulip" dark and emission gasses takes it form from being pushed away by stellar winds. Interesting structure can even be seen in the background nebulosity on the right.
Also faintly visible in the lower left is the "purple" bow-wave of gas being pushed by X-rays from the famous Cygnus X-1 star. Somewhere in this area is a black-hole being feed material from a companion blue giant - creating the brightest x-ray source in the night sky.
