Ceres & Vesta

Ceres & Vesta

Two bright asteroids, Ceres and Vesta, have been gliding in the constellation of Virgo. 1 Ceres at magnitude 8.5 and 4 Vesta at magnitude 7.2 had an angular separation of just under 15 arcminutes when this picture was taken. Although Ceres is much larger than Vesta it appears fainter in this image due to its low albedo and the fact that is was further away from us than Vesta when this image was captured.
