Virgo Galaxy Cluster - Solution

Virgo Galaxy Cluster - Solution

This is a platesolved image of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster / Markarians Chain.
Platesolving involved comparing the position of stars and other objects in an image with a database of images to determine where in the sky the image was taken. Then, objects in the image can be identified by comparing their position with those in the database. Here the various galaxies in the "Virgo Galaxy Cluster" are shown. Often common names are given to prominent objects, but more generally, they are given much more mundane names such as NGC 4438. It and the galaxies next to it are commonly known as "The Eyes". Over 50 named galaxies are in this image, with more that don't have names in the database used to solve this image.
