Galaxies from the Plaskett

Galaxies from the Plaskett

I was trying to pull together all of the different galaxies I have captured on the Plaskett 1.8m telescope over the last few years. All of these have been captured after the centenary, except for the image of NGC7331 (the Deer Lick Group) which was captured in the fall of 2017. Quite incredible that the telescope could track unguided at a 9.2 meter focal length for up to three minutes for some of these images.

All of these images were captured using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey photometic filter set, with GPrime mapped to blue, RPrime mapped to green and IPrime mapped to red. Calibration involves both bias and flats for every frame, and darks for a few sessions where the detector warmed up to -105*C.

From left to right we have:
Messier 51 (the Whirlpool Galaxy) - 43x30s GPrime, 40x30s RPrime and 42x30s IPrime captured on March 5, 2022.

NGC 4631 (the Whale Galaxy) - 10x45s GPrime, RPrime and IPrime captured on April 30, 2022.

NGC 7331 (the Deer Lick Group) - 14x3m GPrime, 10x3m RPrime and 9x3m IPrime captured on September 23, 2017. Telescope operators were myself and Michel Michaud.

NGC6946 (Fireworks Galaxy) - 15x3m GPrime, RPrime and IPrime captured on October 26, 2019. Telescope operator Michel Michaud while I did data capture.

Messier 100 - 10x30s GPrime, RPrime and IPrime captured on April 30, 2022.

Messier 64 (the Black-eye Galaxy) - 9x30s GPrime, 13x30s RPrime and 13x30s IPrime captured on March 5, 2022.

NGC3718 (Arp 214) - 8x120s GPrime, 8x130s RPrime and 8x130 IPrime captured on March 9, 2019. Telescope operator Michel Michaud, while I did data capture.

Messier 63 (the Sunflower Galaxy) - 12x120s GPrime, 12x130s RPrime, and 12x130s IPrime. Telescope operator Michaud, while I did data capture.

Hickson 44 (NGC 3187, 3190 and 3183 - couldn't fit NGC3185) - 61x30s GPrime, 61x30s RPrime and 61x30s IPrime.
