LCROSS Impact Site

October 9, 2009
Victoria Centre Observatory, Observatory Hill, Victoria, BC, Canada

The clouds were taunting us for hours before impact but shortly after 1:00am we were successfully viewing the impact site wondering if we would be rewarded with a spectacular show or a non-show. Seeing was less than perfect especially apparent at this magnification. Moments of good seeing were there but glimpses. The additional external screen was great for group viewing now spoiled by those large Sony TV screens we've been using for the IYA FETTU displays. As the time approached the sky cleared and as we intensely looked for differences in that lunar landscape that might indicate a plume we did not detect one. Disappointed? Perhaps, but I think everyone present enjoyed the anticipation and the possibility.
