IC1318 Butterfly Nebula & Sadr
The area around Sadr (Gamma Cygni) features various nebulous regions which show in this photo as pink and red patches surrounding Sadr - the bright star in this photograph.
Sadr is actually not near these nebulae; it is a foreground star located half way between us and the nebulae. We are looking deep into the Orion Arm of our Galaxy in this direction. The nebulae are more than 3000 light years from Earth.
