The Diamond Ring in Corvallis Oregon

The Diamond Ring in Corvallis Oregon

This is an alternate diamond ring image taken on August 21st. It started off as one of the diamond ring shots after totality. I had exposed a bracketed sequence and this one was +1 stops. It was overexposed to the point where the diaphragm of the lens was creating large diffraction spikes.

I remembered visiting one of the exhibits at Oregon State University during this eclipse weekend stay. It was called Totality and it was an exhibit of art inspired by historical and modern interpretations of the eclipse and astronomy. In one of the glass cases there was a collection of old photographs and I remember how beautiful they were being monochrome and having the worn patina of age.

I often use an Adobe Photoshop plugin called Alien Skin and it has a wonderful collection of film effects for vintage film effects. This is what I used for this image.
