The Double Cluster

The Double Cluster

The Double Cluster is part of my tour of the autumn night sky. It's a very easy binocular object and to those with young eyes you can also see it with just your eyes at a dark site.

It's easy to find, just below the W shape of Cassiopeia and above the bright star Mirfak.

It's home to over 300 blue-white supergiant stars, with a few orange red M type supergiant stars. In larger telescopes it takes on a beautiful three dimensional quality.

Camera: Canon 60da
Lens: Nikon 300/4 AF with Novaflex Adapter (Nikon to Canon)
Exposure: 20 light frames; 20 dark frames f/5.6 for 90 seconds
ISO: 800
Processing: Processing in Maxim DL6, stacking (sigma clip); finishing with Adobe Photoshop CC and Noel Carboni's Astronomy Tools Actions.
