Terninator Feb. 8/14

Terninator Feb. 8/14

Not the best image as it's hand held point and shoot up to the eyepiece of my 6 inch dob. To top it all off, after I uploaded it I realized I shot it at the lowest resolution. What I liked about it though was how it shows two nice features on the Moon. The first is the ever popular Rupees Recta or what is commonly called the Straight Wall. The terminator is right at the point where it first meets the sloping terrain so the straightness of it shows well.

The second feature is a Sunrise crater ray. These happen on the floor of a crater when the Suns rays spill though a cleft in the rim of a crater and illuminate a thin section of the floor of the crater with the rest of it in total darkness. This one is in the crater Maginus.
