Mosaic of M8, M20 region

Mosaic of M8/M20 region. This part of Sagitarius is very rich and Colorful. M8, the Lagoon Nebula in theright centre is the dominant feature, a glowing cloud of hydrogen gas lit by newly formed stars in the cluster NGC 6523. The Trifid nebula, M20 in the upper left has striking blue and red emission regions with prominent dark lanes. The bright star cluster to the lower right of M8 is NGC 6544 and the open cluster M21 is to the lower left of M20. Bits of nebulosity on the centre bottom include IC 1274/5.

Date and Location:- 2008-08-02/03 at Llan-y-glynn Farm near Courtney, BC.
Conditions:- Two very dark moonless nights.
Equipment:- Borg 77mm on Astrotrack mount with Canon 350D camera.
Exposures:- Montage of 2 sets with total of 76 light and 50 dark frames each 60s at ISO 800.
Processing in Images Plus and Photoshop.
