This image was taken in 2010 and has been reprocessed to give a more detailed result. The Orion Nebula is a lovely sight visually and can be strikingly beautiful when imaged in the light from the rich field of excited hydrogen gas that is feeding star formation in its core. Note the 4 trapesium stars in the core.
Details -
Date and location - 2010-01-06 at Yellowpoint Lodge, Vancouver Island.
Conditions - Clear and cool (5 deg C) with no wind or moonlight.
Equipment - 105mm WO refractor with modified Canon T1i camera and Astronomik 12nm H-alpha filter on HEQ5 mount.
Exposure - 126 - 30s frames at ISO 3200 with 8 flat frames for calibration.
Processing in Images Plus and Photoshop.
