Bodes, Cigar and Garland Galaxies

Bodes, Cigar and Garland Galaxies

It’s Galaxy Season and a variety of interesting galaxies are gracing the night sky, particularly around the Big Dipper. Here is a group of three of them, Bodes, Cigar and Garland galaxies. Bodes Galaxy (M81) is a beautiful spiral galaxy 11.7 million light years away. The Cigar Galaxy, named for its obvious apparent shape, is 11.4 million light years distant. And the Garland Galaxy (NGC 3077), a smaller fuzzy ball, nestles nearby.
