Lunar Halo

Lunar Halo

A tip from a younger member of our group Nathan launched me from a warm house to a chilly spring evening. This is one thing you can observe with ease from suburbia.

Ice crystals in the air form this beautiful halo. The fisheye lens that I used covers 180 degrees and a quick measurement showed me the halo was true to form with the classic 22 degree radius.

Camera: Nikon D810
Lens: Nikon 8-15mm Fisheye Zoom set at 8mm for circular image and 15mm for closeup (cropped)
Sensor ISO: 1600
Exposure: 2 seconds at f/5
